Extended College experiences from Southview College
Before completing their education at Southview, student's work with a preparing for adulthood advisor, who works with the students, their families and Southview colleagues to talk, plan and visit possible next step placements in our 'Young Peoples' local communities.
Some students move on to local community colleges where they will continue their education for an additional 3 years, working on independence and living skills courses.
Some students are able to access residential colleges outside of the local area, where a placement is required. They want to work on specific individual skills, e.g. AAC communication
Southview maintain annual contact with school-leavers for an additional 5 years. During this time students keep us informed of their pathways through adulthood from Southview College, Community College and beyond.

Our young people have moved on into some of the following areas:
Jewellery making - for a charity organisation to sell in their own shop.
Training and working in local businesses – Hair dressers and casual bar work.
Independently funded courses at Community College initiative - Chelmsford
Rainbow living org; working with PA’s to work on personal program's including –
Volunteer work - (shops, on hospital radios), Exercise programs
Voluntary work with the Elderly in residential homes.
One young person after college, went on to train a Therapy Pat dog and now works supporting other people in different settings
Some move on to living independently, either supported with a social care package, or through family support.
Life skills centres
Other students have moved on from college into other organisations who support individuals continued learning and skills development. Moving away from the educational aspect of life and working on individuals’ independence, social skills, supporting them to build friendships, and confidence in the wider aspects of their communities.
